08.02.09 Venice Community BBQ & Picnic. The Third Annual Venice Community BBQ & Picnic was held on Saturday, August 1st, from 12:00 to 5:00 PM at Oakwood Park in Venice. The Barbeque featured meats grilled to perfection by the Venice Firefighters, potluck sides and desserts from community members. Activities included a barbeque cook-off with prizes awarded in five categories: Best Chicken, Best Pork, Best Beef, Best Side Dish, Best Dessert; music from some of the finest Venice musicians; games for adults and kids; and supervised play for children. Bondi BBQ took two trophies home: 1st place Best Beef and 2nd place Best Pork. Fran Solomon took 1st prize in Best Dessert for her Key lime pie.
