08.02.09 Hash Bash at Hotel Erwin : Hotel Erwin offered Venice locals an exclusive, fun day full of food and drinks to celebrate the opening of their restaurant Hash on Sun., Aug. 2nd. The event offered free flowing mimosas, bloody mary's, bellinis and freshly brewed coffee, as well as an abundant supply of tasty eggs, corned beef and farmer's market hash. Venice business owners, politicians, writers for the Argonaut, artists and local Venice residents mingled and mixed and spoke highly of the ambience, the food and of Hotel Erwin's High. High is open-air-lounge with a 360 degree view of Los Angeles. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon and I hung with old friends and met some new ones. The party started off at Hash and ended up at High. I was only suppose to be there for a short while because I planned my day to cover the annual Festival of Chariots' Hare Krishna event. The food, refreshing cocktails, people, Hash and then High kept me there the rest of the afternoon. Oh well, this year I covered Hare Krishna from a different angle.... high an above of all of Venice.... The hare krishna event looked packed and full of activities. Hotel Erwin. 1697 Pacific Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90291, 310.452.1111 www.jdvhotels.com : Guess who made it to Hotel Erwin's Hash's grand opening day. Of course, Venice Paparazzi was there to check it out. Hash is Venice's new local breakfast, lunch and dinner spot. It is located inside Hotel Erwin and offers indoor and outdoor dining. The menu offers "from scratch" specialty hashes, Benedict dishes, hotcakes, freshly baked muffins, omelet’s, kick ass coffee and deadly cocktails. Alex and I decided to eat outdoors. I went with oatmeal, because that was what I was feeling that morning and coffee, while Alex stayed true to the roots with an omelets and coffee. The service was fantastic, friendly and fun. Alex really enjoyed his egg white, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, onions and cheddar omelet. I liked my oatmeal, but really how can you go wrong with oatmeal. The morning cocktails looked so inviting that we invited local celebrities Martin Linss and Chell to have one with us. Why not, it was July 4th, and Venice's 104th birthday. I ordered the mimosa; Chell went with the Bellini, while Alex and Martin drank Bloody Marys. We sat on the outside facing Pacific Ave., and surprisingly, thanks to the great work by the Ewin decorating team, the atmosphere was totally calm and peaceful. That morning Alex and I intended to have a quick breakfast. We ended up staying there for two hours. Breakfast at Hash was great. We are definitely coming back to try out the other items on the menu. Other local celebs spotted at Hash were Hotel Erwin's Mark Socol, wife Jessica and daughter Ava. Their rooftop "High" is also on our list of things to check out in Venice.
