09.23.09 Vitale Klitschko and Chris Arreola face off at Muscle Beach Gym in Venice, Ca : (09.23.09 Venice, CA) It was very neat to get the following message from my ex-boxing coach Charlie Stewart of Windsor Boxing Club of Canada, on this rare boxing event that was going on in my neighborhood on Wednesday, September 23rd. Insert taken from http://www.fightnews.com. Los Angeles area fight fans will have access to all prefight activities involving with the WBC heavyweight championship defense of Vitali Klitschko against unbeaten challenger Chris Arreola on Saturday, September 26 at the Staples Center. At 11:30AM on Wednesday, Klitschko and Arreola will engage in a public workout at “Muscle Beach” in Venice, California (1800 Ocean Front Walk). Of course, I was happy to cover this event. The event started with Vladimir Klitschko hitting a few jump shots on the Venice Beach Basketball Courts, as well as posing for the camera and signing autographs. Next, Vitali and Chris skipped, shadowboxed, worked the mitts and did a face off on the stage of Muscle Beach Gym. It was a cool event. I liked Vladimir's comment on how he feels that he is an artist when he boxes. There fight will be held on Saturday, September 26th. at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It will be a free event on HBO. BOXING IN VENICE. Learn how to box and use Kettlebells with Alex and Edizen. Visit www.kettlebellboxing.com

03.18.09 Golden Gloves District Tournament at Lincoln Park Rec Center, 3501 Valley Blvd., Los Angeles. Weigh-ins at 4 p.m (Wed. night) : The Kettlebell Boxing team spent a very long day in Los Angeles on Wednesday March 18th. KBB was there for the 2009 District Golden Gloves tournament. A five day tournament that started on Tuesday March 17th and will end on Saturday March 21st.

We left Venice at 3:00 p.m. to make the 4:00 p.m. weigh-ins and medical. KBB member Daniel Vasques weighed in at 165 lbs and was scheduled to fight in the 14th bout. There were two rings. One for the novice non advancing tournament and the other for the open advancing tournament. I believe there were 18 bouts scheduled in each ring. At least 65 boxers in attendance. Daniel fought in the novice division. Unfortuanely he suffered his first loss and will not move on in the tournament. He did great, however his opponent was just bigger and faster. His first words were in the car ride home was "can't wait to get back in the gym". Now that's a winner. Champions always get back up.

Weigh In's were from 4-5:30 p.m and the fights started at 7:30 p.m. There were 10 male bouts and one female match. Our boxer PJ Fisher was the 6th bout. This was his first USA amateur boxing bout and thanks to Adam Fish of Big Fish Boxing club for pre-matching P.J. on very short notice.

A little about PJ Fisher.

P.J. Fisher of Philadelphia came to Venice two months ago to box and hang out and work at his Uncle's restaurant. You may have heard of it, Baby Blues BBQ on Lincoln Blvd. Yup... yummy! He approached Kettlebell Boxing coaches Alex and Edizen Stowell and said he wanted to compete in California before he left for school back in Philadelphia. Congratualtions P.J.
